Television Season Is Over

Well we watched the last episode of CSI Miami tonight. I cannot believe how fast we watched them this year. I am sad. I still stand by my choice that Miami is my favorite overall BUT CSI: NY is very close. I do like the regular/original CSI and have to admit the best episode of any of the shows that I have ever seen was the final 2-part show of this past season. It was directed by Quentin Taratino and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Kudos for them. I can't wait until next year.

daphne, I hope you will take this well .... its fiction, not real, and there is a whole world out there waiting for you to interact with it. TV is a drug designed to keep people from having a real life so that they can be driven into herds that will buy what the marketers are selling, believe what the talking head news shows are saying, and most of all, let the actors play out an exciting scene that the viewer should be experiencing. BLOW UP YOUR TV before its too late!

oh no David, some of those scenes on CSI should never be experienced by a real person. But I do know TV is a drug (although I'm not so anti-television as you). That is why we watch CSI on DVD once a year when they are released. It's my yearly fix. I don't have "TV". I do not get any regular stations, no cable, no satellite and haven't since M-boy (he is almost 13) was born. We have a TV with a DVD player attached. We are a science household and teach it anyway we can. But thanks for your input.

This post has inspired an interesting discussion. For myself, I never watch tv, but is it a drug? If it is, then like many drugs, it has positive uses. For example, it can certainly be educational - there are so many shows focusing on so many different areas of knowledge.

Another advantage of tv is (more in Europe, where people are not so afraid of subtitles) is being able to hear other languages...I will be back in Danish lessons in January, to prepare for an exam which includes a very difficult listening part, and I know that I'll have to start watching Danish news, debate programs (there are lots of those, comparatively speaking), and so on, in order to get exposure to more topics and accents than I get in my everyday life. And I recommend the news in English (like CNN International or BBC World) to students who want to work on their English listening skills.

And, why Miami over Las Vegas? I've only seen a couple episodes of each, but remember that the main guy (can't remember his name, the redheaded guy) in Miami was really over the top smarmy.
