A Commentary On Tasered UCLA Kid

Here is a link to one of the numerous articles.

I think police have gotten a bad rap on this. I watched the video a couple of times. The kid was being an ass. He was screaming and making a scene, inciting other students to do the same. All he had to do was show his stupid ID but he wanted to be a martyr or something. What a jerk! He is lucky they didn't break out their clubs and beat him to death. This has nothing to do with the patriot act despite his claims. It has to do with campus safety and he wasn't the only one asked to show his ID that evening. What a loser. The sad part is that the campus police are seen as the bad guys. Rapes, muggings and worse happen on college campuses everyday and no one ever posts videos or writes articles hailing the heroes that stop these crimes. The police force is not the enemy. Too bad this kid has further ruined the reputation of our fine men and women in blue. I think America has gotten a healthy respect for the military these days. They also respect fireman more since 9/11. Only our beloved police force seems to be overlooked. Today, if you see a police officer, shake his/her hand and thank them for the fine job they are doing.

This kid shares a publicist with OJ Simpson. (That's a joke. I think.)

Yep I agree about the kid being an ass, but I can't help but wonder what the police is doing surveying a library?

How can you justify tasering a student for not showing his ID?

Rick, I think you are right on the money there.

Kunstemaecker, the UCLA library is a private library. Students have to pay some pretty hefty fees to use it. Many other college students from other schools (like USC) like to use the library which takes away from the UCLA students. I think the student in question was not tasered for his lack of ID but tasered because he was making a scene and verbally abusing the officers who were just doing their jobs. He had the entire library in an uproar. Mobs are dangerous and very difficult to control.

SA, I didn't go to that UH campus. I went to ClearLake and sometimes the Sugarland satellite campus. That was very safe, even at night. But I was still grateful for the campus police. They were always there if I needed them.

The blogger is entitled to his opinion as to the posters, as for mine, I am absoloutley apalled, if not for the fact that the police were cruelly and using overexcessive force (which they are) Then for their LACK of complete and total Competency in the matter. To me they seem to be exactly the one in a million incredibly incompetant policemen that causes the media to focus on them. If anything, other policemen should hate these guys for making them look bad.

Yes, the guy was being a jerk, but he was no where near being close to deserving of being tasered. Write him a ticket for disturbing the peace. Loitering on private property. I don't care but don't physically harm the guy.

re:daphnewood: Do you think the police did a good job of making quiet the library?

David, too weird? pity. You must be one of those 'normal' guys. I am not even close to normal :(

Chen Tsen, your opinion is respected. However, I feel the guy had the right to remain silent. He should have exercised that right.
