M-Boy's Surgery

Well it went pretty good today. The cholesteatoma had grown back and destroyed to two processes off of his stapes (ear bone known as the stirrup). That was bad news but explained why his hearing went so bad. The doctor said he pulled it right out and since this guys does this kind of thing everyday, I believe him when he says that the chances of regrowing are very slim. So no more tumor! The mastoid also had a build up of scar tissue that he cleaned out then he installed a prosthesis to mimic M-Boy's lost ear bones. Hopefully in a few weeks M-Boy will be hearing better than ever. Overall the day went good. It was bad about the tumor growing back and the mastoid being cluttered with scar tissue but the ear looked healthy and ready for new life. I am soooo tired. M-Boy is sleeping right now and I think I will sneak in a nap. Thanks for your prayers everyone. I'll have to tell you more tomorrow about the whole "child of a doctor" treatment. I'll post pics too.

I am very relieved to learn that things went according to plan. I was thinking about you today. Being a parent is no easy task, especially when it comes to your kids health problems.

AFter reading up on this condition on the Internet I can certainly understand what stress you must deal with. I am so glad things are looking good, though. Thank God! I hope you and M-boy both get some good rest.

You're such a good mother. I know I keep saying that but you really are.

And it's good that M-boy is getting all this over with when he's young. The older you get, the more self-conscious you are about this kind of stuff.

I'm so happy all went well!! Well it sounds like the surgery was a phenomenal success! Best wishes for his speedy recovery--though isn't recovery quicker when the patient gets ice cream every day? (I'm trying for you there M-Boy!)

ya know? If i was wearing your shoes, I'd be a complete basket case. How do you always seem to take things so calmly and as they come? Lotsa love to you all!

Nettie, thanks so much!

Al, parenting can really suck at times but is fulfilling. I love my kids so much.

Vickie, I think my son has had this problem for a very long time. It took 4 ENTs to finally figure out what was going on but by that time he was already 8 years old. It has been a battle ever since. This was his 5th doctor but this one was a specialist inside a specialty. pure otology.

Leslie, my kids tell me all the time that I am a good mom but the really have no clue. I feed them way too much junk, don't make them go to bed at regular hours but I do try. Thanks for the encouragement. Mostly I just want them to be independent and happy and care about everyone in the world. Piece of cake, right?!

Etchen, M-Boy got his favorite Reese's pb cups last night. He wanted McDonalds on the way home from the hospital so we obliged. Now he is planted in front of the somputer playing Rollercoaster Tycoon III. He loves that game.

Rowan, when M-boy was young and just starting to go through stuff my aunt asked me what would be the worst thing doctors could tell me about M-Boy. I immediately said "I would hate for the docs to say he is retarded". A few days after that is when M-Boy went to the hospital and got and MRI to make sure that he didn't have any brain tumors causing his seizures. At that point, I realized a retarded or maimed or different or any type of child is better than a dead child. All this stuff, it sucks that he has to go through it but he is alive, happy and not in danger of dying from his afflictions. I welcome that with open arms. It keeps me focused.
