I Am Easily Influenced

I have invested a mere $3.48 on a pedometer. I know how far I walk when I go around the lake/pond (it is kind of small to call a lake) because the trail is all measured out. However, I am trying to make myself health conscious at all times, not just when I walk. I shudder to think what I will be like when I get my glucose kit next week. Have any of my blogger buddies used a pedometer? I see that 10,000 steps a day is the concensus of what is deemed as "active". I have found many helpful tips on the internet like getting up from the computer every hour and walking 200-300 steps. It takes less than 5 minutes and my work won't make me a cubicle prisoner that way. It is amazing that a tiny plastic contraption could make me so aware to get moving. Are there any other suckers out there like me?

I LOVE a pedometer. I am addicted. But even a full day at work when it was busy, plus working out at the gym, and it only put me at 7000 steps. Geeeeeesh. So I guess I should have walked a few miles as well.

Seriously, when you get a pedometer and you see your baseline (like my first day was 3000 and I was ashamed of me, but it was not a work day and we watched movies all day long), then you just want to beat it the next day.

:-) ANYTHING to give you the proper motivation!!!

*hugs*

So if I keep mine in a file cabinet, does that make me a pedo-filer? *sick* That's a stupid joke, but for that reason I always call those things 'step counters'.

Ooo, found out last weekend that a guy the kids and I met at a festival was arrested in Houston for kiddie porn-ing. Mancub was wearing a Scooby outfit and he had a Mystery Van. Apparently his whole house was Scoobied up and he actively sought out children with it. Only around the guy about 2 minutes, but it gave me the huge creeps hearing about him.

Al, I cannot tell you how much that has happened to me lately. I still got this comment so blogger is slipping ;)

Jay, you are right about anything for motivation. Today I walked 4 laps and it equaled almost 6,000 steps! I think once I get my stamina built up I can start going farther and faster. Until then, this little counter keeps me focused and MOVING.

FH, from one sick joke teller to another, your humor is always welcome here ;) That is so creepy about Mancub's encounter. You know, right before I moved to KS we went to Kemah Boardwalk (near NASA) and there was this "Scooby Doo Show" and they had the Mystery Van out there. It was definitely geared for kids. It makes me wonder if that sicko was among the crowd.

John, thanks for stopping by and especially thanks for the encouragement. I can't get the mile counter to work but the step counter is just fine. That is all I need for now.

are u kidding me? I have two pedometers, one real expensive one and one for 99 cents. They both work as well as the other except the expensive one has a closeable case which is always falling off.

Yep, 10,000 steps is the recommendation, but either I do not know how to set the blasted thing, or I'm really useless, because after 4-6 hours of walking, I still only peak at about 5800 steps in a day. I suck.
